I was reading the paper while eating lunch today. There was a story featured about a very interesting web site that made me automatically think of my US f-listers. Some of you have probably heard of this site before. It's call PaperBack Swap. You literally swap your books with other site users. You pay the shipping to send the book to someone, and in turn another person pays shipping to send you a book. It's a really interesting concept. I collect books, so I don't know that I'd use a site like this one often, but I know lots of people shop at used bookstores with the intention of selling the books back when they're done. This site seems like a great way of getting books even cheaper. Shipping doesn't cost as much as most used bookstores. In addition to PaperBack Swap, they also have Swap A CD and Swap A DVD.

I just found out today that my Stargate Atlantis story, The Distant Journey, has won first place in the 2008 Isis Awards in the other/other category. I'm so thrilled! Thank you so, so much to everyone who voted. You all rock!

The winners banners haven't been finished yet, so no shinies to put up. But that's okay. The Isis Awards are a once a year thing, and they have thousands of votes to sift through when the voting period is over. They put in a massive amount of work to run the awards, and I'm very appreciative of their efforts.

So... *SQUEE* I'm just so excited! I've only written one story in the SGA fandom, and I had no idea it was well known enough to stand a chance of winning. And more thanks to my mysterious nominator. I think I know who you are, and you're awesome! :D

I don't think any of the other winners are on my flist, but congrats anyway, in case you happen by!

I signed up for the snuna_exchange. I need a challenge. And since the fics can only be 1000-5000 words long, it won't be a challenge I can't accomplish. And I find the pairing interesting. They have so much in common, yet are so different. Anyway, the Exchange is only allowing the first thirty sign-ups to participate. If you're interested, there are three spots still available. :D

I've gathered a large number of adoptable pets in the last few months. I'm making a post for them so I can take the adults off my profile, but still have a link to them. I have my pets, my hubby's dragons, and the kids' pets under the cut. :)

I posted about this almost a month ago, but due to several delays, the voting has just begun. The Distant Journey was nominated in the 2008 Isis Awards in the other/other pairing category for Stargate secondary het ship fanfiction. Voting is now open through Jan. 17, 2009. I still don't know who nominated my story, but I do have a pretty good idea. Lots of thanks to you. Getting a nomination is, in and of itself, a huge, huge compliment. :)

Voting has been delayed for a week due to some last minute nominations, but it will go on through December 20, 2008 once it opens.

Its cold outside, and I'm tired. I just finished my Photoshop assignment and turned it in. Biology was hell on earth this week. Somehow I managed to pass the quiz. Frankly, I got lucky with my multiple choice answers. I've finished my web design assignment and turned it in early. Now, I have to make an appointment with an adviser for an assignment. Yes, with an adviser. Stupidest assignment on the planet. I actually have to turn in an advised schedule for the remainder of my degree. Pointless. I don't need an adviser to do that. I had to fix Gene's schedule after an adviser screwed it up royally. Blah. I guess I need to call them and see about a phone appointment.

Other than that mess, there hasn't really been much going on. Nathan had a poor first report card, but his teacher told me he went from below average to far above average in one week. He was simply not doing things because he didn't feel like it, not because he didn't understand it. *sigh* At least he's working now. Kara is doing well. Her best friend gave her a friendship bracelet this morning. She was thrilled. And Gene is doing well in school. He has an A- average overall. I'm proud of him for working so hard.

So, all is quite on the home front for now. I'm just waiting for an explosion. Things get quiet, and I get worried. LOL *hugs and love*
